My paintings deal with the only subject there really is, consciousness.

Nothing exists outside of consciousness.  Everything we perceive through the senses is dependent on consciousness for their  existence.  This is one of the main tenets of Advaita Vedanta which is the philosophy of my spiritual practice and outlook on life.  Vedanta is the final, or the highest teachings of the Vedas, the Upanishads.  Advaita means non-dual.  This world appears as many but the ground of everything we see and experience is only the one consciousness.  I have looked into different spiritual paths, and a few years ago I found the philosophy and spiritual practice that truly makes sense to me.  This one reality of consciousness, or Brahman, which means The Vast, is formless, but it can take human form in a Rama, Krishna, Buddha, or Jesus.

In my work consciousness takes a different form

Graffiti is the visual language I use to create images, or visions, of the Ultimate Reality.  The pairing of God as consciousness and graffiti is an unlikely one, but nonetheless, it is what I do.  I am an active graffiti writer in NYC and NJ and have been since the early 90s and since that time I have done a lot more oil painting than graffiti.  My paintings have always had the look and feel of graffiti but did not contain graffiti letters, numbers or obvious cartoon characters.  I long considered my paintings abstract surrealist, mainly influenced by Arshile Gorky and Roberto Matta, until I learned that the subconscious is not real, it is an object in our awareness just like the body and mind.
